Watercooled Classic is excited to announce we can now offer the full range of IPD Plenums, Y pipes, and other Innovative Pro Designs products, here in New Zealand.
If you`re after DIY-able, dyno proven, safe performance gains which won`t break the bank, or draw unwanted attention – then you need to fit an IPD plenum upgrade to your watercooled Porsche.
Designed and manufactured in Southern California, IPD Plenums are the product of hours of extensive flow-bench testing, dyno work, and real-world experience. Recommended by industry experts like LN Engineering and tuners like FVD Brombacher, IPD is the real deal.
So what is a plenum, and why is IPD`s such an effective upgrade for any Porsche?
Simply put, the plenum is part of the induction system on your Porsche, connecting the throttle body with the intake manifold. All the air your engine ‘breathes’ passes through the plenum, which in the case of the stock Porsche part is a simple plastic ‘tee’, pretty much unchanged since the air-cooled days.
The IPD Plenum utilises a patented Y shape, which together with model specific internal shaping and surface dimpling improves intake air flow and increases air velocity into the cylinders.
The IPD plenum creates laminar flow, improving the efficiency of the intake side of your flat six, and increasing power and torque on all Porsches, especially Turbo`s.
The IPD plenum is constructed from cast-aluminium (just like the GT3 Cup and GT3RS variants) and is a true bolt on part. No ECU tune is needed, just a brief period of adaptation / self learning as you drive (through a series of hard-pulls through the rev range).
Paired with a freer flowing air-filter from BMC, the installation of an IPD plenum to your watercooled classic is simple, bolt-on horsepower, typically 8-10%, depending on the model.
For those with more modified vehicles, IPD have the Competition Plenum series. These larger plenums allow for the fitment of larger throttle bodies, extracting the maximum benefit from breathing modifications such as sports-cats, X-pipes, aftermarket mufflers, and headers / extractors.
From personal experience, we have the Competition plenum with 74mm throttle body fitted to our 986S, and the larger Competition plenum with the 82mm (GT3) throttle body on our 996 Carrera 4.
We`re more than happy with the increase in power and torque the plenums liberated on our Porsches, and can`t recommend them highly enough.
Watercooled Classic has access to the full range of IPD plenums, Y pipes, and upgraded throttle bodies for all Porsches, at competitive prices.
If we don`t have the one you need in stock, we can have it for you in 10-12 working days, delivered to your door, and we`re here to provide support with installation (in the unlikely event you need it).
