We`re happy to offer specialist tooling for rental, to help NZ Porsche owners maintain and improve their watercooled classics.
One of our customers, Simon (@simey2wheels) recently used our Transmission Mount Tool to replace the worn mount in his 1998 Porsche 996. He supplied the following fantastic write-up, which we`re reproducing to help others.
The tool allows for the removal of 996 and 997.1 transmission (6MT and Tiptronic) mounts - with the transmission still in the vehicle. This saves considerable time, and expense (if you`re a shop).
The tool manufacturers instructions can be seen below:
First step is to use a jack to support the front end of the gearbox, then remove fasteners and use the tool to slowly force out the existing mount.
Important notes: lots of anti-seize on all fasteners and the new mount (Brembo B-Quiet is good for this), and install from the chamfered side as per the picture below.
Once you`ve lined up the new mount, use the tool to pull it through:
When installed, the new mount will look like this:
Torque the mount bolts up to 65Nm (48ft/lbs), and you`re good to go.
We have a range of specialist tooling available for hire to support your DIY efforts: IMS / RMS installation tools, cam timing and engine rebuild tooling, with more always being added.
We also have Durametric Pro, and PoCOM units available for rental / loan, with adapters to allow the early (pre-OBDII) vehicles to be diagnosed.
